Nobel Prize in Physics!

I know I just posted yesterday, but I want to tell everyone right away. The guy who runs Finn’s project won the Nobel Prize in Physics!!

In an interview cited by the New York Times, the honoree said that his work was the result of a “large collaboration” with other researchers. That’s Finn!

Soon he’ll be here for two weeks (Finn, not the Nobel Prize winner—well, actually, the prize winner will be here, too, but not at my house), to attend the annual collaboration meeting at U Wisconsin Madison, and then Finn will stay with me for an additional week to spend needed time away from his office and lab to work on writing his dissertation.

His dad and he and I were texting immediately following the Nobel Prize news, of course. I said that Finn can now start putting this on his resume, and his dad said, “Hell, I’m putting it on MY resume, right now!” Tracy counters that there’s no need, because any physicist reading Finn’s resume will know the guy’s name, and any time they see the name of the project, Ice Cube, they’ll know.

You can read a super-simplified version of what Finn does, in my basic, not always accurate language, here. And, you can read an article by a Madison journalist, here.

I’m working on my exact language to use casually, and maybe you can help me. Tracy said something to me this morning, and I retorted,

Watch it. You’re speaking to the mother of the physicist working on a project run by the winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics!

That doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it.
